TST  2011 . 12

About

TST stands for Team Sumo Tournament. The TST is a tournament played on team sumo, a game type from Armagetron Advanced where teams of two players are set in an ever-shrinking zone where they have to stay.

History

In late 2006, Durka had the idea to raise the maximum number of players per team to two on his poor home-hosted sumo server which lead to 2v2v2v2 fights. Despite the occasional lag, players liked the concept and it was exported to a few servers which became almost instantly the most popular sumo servers. A few days later, he put up the first TST on January 21th, 2007, coordinated from the Durka Durka Land Forum Boards. He organized five TSTs but then dropped it as he had not enough time on his hands.

Seven months later, ¦×¦ decides to run a TST on their own, re-branding the tournament to TST 2008.02. It is a success and spots were full-filled rapidly; so fast that many players were locked out. This was what TST 2008.03 was supposed to fix by expanding the number of teams to 32, or 64 players in total.

The person in charge of registration management (yes, me!) started to understand why Durka dropped it. He decided to put up a site for the TST, skipping a month and promising to deliver the TST for June; but the exams were near and his site designs didn’t please him at all, so he moved to other stuff.

In end October 2008, after a while without any tournament, as the 16th ladle had a great success, he decides to give his TST site another shot and came up with something that pleased him. He luckily found 5 servers and could (miraculously?) understand his magic challenge board generator again. The TST 2008.11 was here.

Playing in the TST

To play in the TST, it’s simple. Grab your teammate, ask him for his e-mail and give it a slap if it refuses to answer. Then, once registration is open (see News), fill the form from the Sign up page with your nicknames, e-mail addresses, time and server preferences. We will check your e-mails so that we are sure you are not Artificial Intelligence and that you actually have a friend. Once that’s done- wait. Once we can’t accept anymore people in, we will either try to randomly organize teams and servers or to put ourselves directly in the finals (see Rules). Once the teams are properly organized on the challenge board, or “Schedule“, we will launch our Artificial Intelligence program to send you a note on where and when you will play.

Oh and, uhm, make sure you can actually play before signing up.

Community

To find other people interested in the TST, you can visit and post at the Competitions subsection from the official ArmagetronAd forums, or to chat on IRC in channel #armagetron.tourneys or #armagetron on FreeNode. You may also find enthusiasts in the comments from the News section, although I guess it is not adapted for real discussions.

Anyways, have a good time here, and have a nice TST!
